Area Home Sales Soar- This is a 4 YEAR HIGH!!!

While reading the paper, I happened upon some good news I just could not wait to share.  On the front page of the Dallas Morning News on June 9th, appeared an article about current home sales in North Texas.  The following is what stood out to me.

While sales soared in May to the highest level in four years, Real Estate agents sold 22% more homes than in May 2011, according to The Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University.  In addition, home sales in North Texas were up 16% from the first five months in 2011.  The surge in spring home buying does much to ease fears that our local housing market could slip back into recession.

Some other points of interest:

  • Area home sales have been higher the last eleven months  than the previous year
  • Number of homes on the market for sale in DFW, down more than 22 percent
  • In May, average days on the market to sell a house was  70
  • End of May, only about a five month supply of houses for sale on the market
  • Six month supply considered a balanced market.
  • Agents say “demand in some neighborhoods is out stripping the supply”
  • Multiple offers are being seen on some properties
  • Buyers want to take advantage of low prices and low interest rates
  • Home sales in affluent neighborhoods like Park Cities and North Dallas up more than a third from a year ago
  • Sales up 54 percent in Frisco, 41 percent in Allen
  • Strongest markets continue to be those spanning the northern suburbs of D-FW
  • Median price of homes sold in North Texas was $162,500, highest level in two years
Pre-owned markets are being watched closely for increased sales, reduction of housing inventory and strengthening of house prices…all of these indicators point to a more universal recovery for the D-FW housing market.  Record low mortgage rates continue to be a motivating factor!

That my friends, is some good news!

Italian Party Bites

There is nothing better than getting together with good friends in the summer!  Whether we go out to dinner or just barbecue at home we always have a great time! My husband and I have a great group of friends we've known for quite some time. We met through our children when they attended elementary school, and played team sports.  At this point, our kids are grown and have gone on with their own lives but we have remained friends!
No matter when we get together, one of my favorite dishes to serve is Italian Party Bites. This recipe is so versatile; you could even make it for a main dish and add a salad.  Although, if your husband is like mine, he would insist on adding meat, otherwise, he deems this not a meal, but “chick food.”

  • 1 Italian Bread Shell 12”
  • 1 tsp. Minced Onion
  • 1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
  • ½ cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • ½ tsp. Thyme Leaves
  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 Cup of Thinly Sliced Veggies
  • (Red pepper zucchini, Mushrooms, Onion)
  • 1 Can (2.2 Ounce) Sliced Black Olives
  • ¼ Cup Shredded Parmesan Cheese

  • Preheat Oven 450
  • Place Shell on Cookie Sheet
  • In bowl toss next 6 Ingredients, spread on Shell.
  • Top with olives and Parmesan Cheese
  • Bake 8 to 10 Minutes
  • Cut into 2 inch squares

A Summer "What-List?"

All over the blog'o sphere are posts regarding a summer bucket list.  I love the idea, maybe just not the name!  Anyway, the premise is to make a splashy, visually attractive list to keep track of all of the summer fun you are planning.  I began seeing this trend last summer, but I think this summer is my summer to try it!  Check out some of the links we've gathered:

Happy Summertime FUN to each of you!
